Syracuse, N.Y. – The Syracuse VA Medical Center has adopted the most stringent Covid 19 safety restrictions as part of a new national system that adjusts precautions based on local Covid transmission levels at VA hospitals.
The VA announced its three standardized Covid protection levels – low, medium and high – are based on new Covid cases and the percentage of positive tests.
The Syracuse VA said its protection level is currently at high.
That means only patients in end-of-life and comfort care situations can receive visitors and visitors must be screened at all entrances. Face masks are required at all levels of protection.
The VA said protection levels will be updated as needed on Mondays and posted on its website.
“Our veterans are resolute about receiving their care at our facilities and we want to keep them safe during the ups and downs of Covid-19 community spread,” said Frank Pearson, Syracuse VA director.
