Lionel Messi has told Edu why Arsenal should go ahead with the signing of Arthur from Juventus.
According to CalcioMercato, the Gunners are interested in signing the midfielder in January and he would be available for as little as £29 million in the winter window.
The 25-year-old signed for Juventus in 2020 but has struggled for regular game time and has often been on the bench this season, despite his creative qualities.
Messi is also aware of what the Brazilian can bring to midfield, as the pair played together at Barcelona before they both departed the La Liga giant.
Speaking to Catalunya Radio, the Argentine said: “I didn't know much about Arthur before [he joined], but he's really similar to Xavi.
“He's really safe and reliable [on the ball]. He has the style of a player that's come through La Masia.” He added.
“He plays well over short distances, he doesn't lose the ball. He's got to grips really quickly with the team's dynamic.”
Arsenal seem particularly vulnerable as teams employ a full-scale press on Arteta’s side when they look to play out from the back, but Arthur’s press-resistant qualities would be able to help ease those fears of losing the ball in dangerous positions.
Despite an excellent 2-0 win over top-four rivals, West Ham on Wednesday evening, there were times when Granit Xhaka looked clumsy on the ball and could have easily been dispossessed.
Arthur would certainly be able to sort out this issue for Arsenal considering his best strength is the ability to remain composed when under pressure.

The Gunners are short in the central-midfield area and need a top-quality partner for Thomas Partey in order to get the best out of the Ghanian, which the fans have been desperate to see.
With the co-signing from Messi to complete the signing of Arthur, it is certainly a deal that Edu should be looking to pursue.
