Algoma resident dies of COVID-19 – The Sault Star

A 59th Algoma District resident has died of COVID-19, Algoma Public Health said Thursday.

Thirty eight, or 64 per cent, of the deaths since March 2020 have happened this year.

Forty-three new cases of COVID-19 were reported by APH in its latest twice-weekly update.

Most, 35, are from Sault Ste. Marie and area, with four from Central and East Algoma. Three cases were from Elliot Lake and area One case was from North Algoma.

Six hospital patients in the region have COVID-19. Two ICU patients have the virus.

Total cases since March 2020 stand at 8,659 with 43 active.

A COVID-19 outbreak, declared on June 13, continues at Sault Area Hospital’s 2A.

Worldwide, 6.3 million people have died of COVID-19. Canadian deaths stand at 41,566.
